The perfect combination: cake and coke. Just what every five year old needs.

Also, doesn't Ben look tough with his awesome forearm tattoo? I think I'll get one in the same spot.

Bee

I was tired of reading my own sad story, so I figured I should start posting again. It's not like I didn't take nearly 6000 photos on my camera, and another few hundred with my K1000. I have photos on file. So here starts a new chapter in my photography "career".

On another quick note, my insurance company (not ICBC, but my property insurance) is currently working on my claim, and I hope to have a new DSLR in the next few weeks. We'll see.

Sad

Nothing to post.

Last night, on the way home from a conference in Vancouver, Washington, my van was broken into and my camera, laptop, iPod, and the few clothes I had with me were all stolen. I may post some old photos, but I will not have any new content to post here for a while.

I'm a little sad; mostly because I don't think the person who stole my camera is taking up photography and was looking for a cheap way to break into the hobby. I'm sure it'll end up pawned and I don't know if I'll get it back.

I'm waiting and hoping.

Canadian National

I've been hard pressed to find a boxcar that hasn't been personalized by some enterprising young person desperate to have his or her name known all across Canada. I wonder if this is what John A. Macdonald had in mind back in the 1860's when he pushed hard to have the national railway funded and built.

Afterthoughts

This picture was taken on September 11th. Ben and I had just come out of "Afterthoughts", a wicked dessert place in Abbotsford. I had the Vancouver Cheesecake, if you're wondering, with chocolate, caramel and whipped cream. Anyway, it was a day of "afterthoughts". It was September 11th, so New York and most of the USA was in memorial mode.

It was also the end of the first week of teaching for me, so it was in a moment of celebration that we (the whole family) went out for cheesecake (and mousse, or moo-is, for Ben).

It was also a day in which I introduced the novel 1984 to a new batch of Grade 12 students, and realized that I would once again be the bearer of the mantle of healthy skepticism for a group of largely apathetic teens.

It was also a beautiful day that ended with such a comfortably warm evening that one would be hard-pressed to believe there was anything wrong with the world.

Afterthoughts. All of them.

Ponte Vecchio

Browsing through some old pictures from my trip to Europe in March, and I've found a bunch I meant to post but hadn't yet.

Ponte Vecchio, the bridge above, was saved from destruction during WWII by Hitler who, after visiting with Mussolini in Florence, deemed the bridge a piece of history that should not be destroyed. Ponte Vecchio was built by Medici in order to create a hallway that extended from his office in the Florence city center all the way to the Palazzo his wife had built on the opposite side of the river.

That's right. This bridge was a hallway. Makes my hallway seem kind of insignificant.

well...

a puffball. Who am I kidding? It's still a dandelion.

Lemonheads

I used to love these things, but they will mess you up. They leave me with the roof of my mouth in the same condition as a pile of ground beef - mouth beef, if you will. Mostly because I can't just eat one, and close the box. I have to have more, or none at all. Oh, the agony of the lemonheads.

So I named the file for this flower "dahlia" although I don't know if it is one. Does anyone know? If you do, let me know what it is. Thanks.

Oh, and I shot this in RAW and played with it in CS4. Let me know if you like it. Hilary doesn't, but I kind of like it.
